While we wait on this…
and this…
My pooch has begun the spring sniff test, turning routine dog walks into tests of patience. I’m as excited as she is, even if I can’t smell anything yet but the slow thaw of dog shit. Canada’s third official season, after snow and traffic, is Exposed Turds. I’ll spare you the image.
There’s plenty of rot on Bloodline too. Netflix keeps reeling me in, this time to a dark family drama set in the Florida Keys.
Big families have their fault lines and here they surely are in the Rayburn family, headed up by Sam Shepard and Sissy Spacek. Florida may be dolphins* and beaches but what’s creeping under the mangroves? I paddled through a patch myself earlier this month. Even on a sunny day, the mind can travel.
Why I’m watching? I’m the middle of five. Making connections to my own large family is inevitable whenever I watch these seething dramas. I’m betting you’ll do the same.
Who I’m watching: Ben Mendelsohn is endlessly fascinating to watch. I first loved him in The Place Beyond the Pines and then caught fully on with Starred Up. Rent them both on your next movie night when you and the irritant who can’t settle on a title but keeps flicking though all the trailers are stymied for choice. Here, Mendelsohn is the black sheep. Or is he? Norbert Leo Butz, another brother in the Rayburn clan, was a force on Broadway where he is one of only a handful of actors to win the Tony award twice as lead actor. Two very good reasons to watch but wait…
Who I’m really watching? Kyle Chandler.
What are you watching while you wait on spring?
*I saw plenty of dolphins too when I was in Florida. Thankfully I hadn’t read this first: The dark secrets that dolphins don’t want you to know

Thanks for the Netflix tip! I keep getting reeled in….speaking of Kyle Chandler, I just finished Friday Night Lights…maybe a little embarrassing since I’m probably no where near the age range of their target audience, but whatevs it’s been a long winter and between Kyle Chandler and Taylor Kitsch, there’s lots of eye candy : )
Not embarrassing at all-I too need to see that series as I’ve caught a few episodes here and there and loved what I have seen. And three cheers for eye candy!
