RITUAL OF THE DAYπππͺπ·πΏπ»π¬π©βοΈπͺπ¬ππ¨πΉπΌπ£π€
My girls are grown-up. Gulp (again). That means they’re experiencing Halloween, campus-style. I’ll share pics tomorrow (if they let me).
And so, this the first autumn without dress-up at Wit’s End: no kids donning costumes in the bathroom and gobbling a quick dinner before the trick-or-treat candy bonanza through the neighbourhood.
Do I still bring out the bins of Halloween decor? Put out the pumpkin and cauldron…the whole shebang of years past?
Regular Red Chronicle readers already know the answer.
YES!!!
That’s what ritual is for.
Rituals are the smile of life. They help shape our identity and connect us to our childhood, to those first sparks of life when everything was possible.
For my Halloween conundrum, I didn’t have to look very far to find a kindred spirit in my wonderful neighbour, Janet, who shared a favourite family ritual. Janet is always an inspiration and this little video proves that some rituals are meant to carry on forever.
I love seeing all the kids come to my door. Who wants to disappoint that crowd? When they stop knocking, I’ll be on the couch with friends brave enough to watch a scary flick with me. That would be friends in my Blink-Of-An-Eye Club (all of us with babies flown the coop-when did that happen?)This year is as good as any to start a new ritual: scare myself silly with a movie genre I normally avoid entirely. Screaming is free.
HAPPY HALLOWEEEN.
